Preconception care - Laying the foundation for a healthier future

Date: Wednesday 22 January 2025
Time: 14:00-15:30 UTC
Description:
The preconception period is a critical "window of opportunity" to address health risks and establish healthier habits to prevent maternal and foetal morbidity and mortality. Prior to conception, healthcare professionals should engage in preconception care with women and couples to reduce habits and factors that contribute to negative maternal and child health outcomes. These biomedical, behavioural and social health interventions are important for improving the short and long-term health of mothers and their children.
In this webinar, experienced experts will discuss the latest recommendations on crucial elements of preconception care such as nutrition. Additionally, they will go over pre- and inter-conception evaluation for high-risk pregnancies. Also included is a discussion on the potential for digital health technologies and tools in facilitating effective preconception care. Lastly, speakers will go over methods for addressing challenges to preconception care implementation with a focus on low-resource settings.
FIGO is a strong advocate for preconception care and the implementation of these preventative initiatives across its member societies. This was demonstrated in 2024 with the release of the valuable FIGO Preconception Checklist. This webinar is another example of FIGO's commitment to disseminating knowledge and resources to assist healthcare professionals in implementing evidence-based preconception care with their patients.
This webinar is led by the FIGO Division of Well Women Health Care in collaboration with the FIGO Committee on the Impact of Pregnancy on Long-Term Health.
