Story

UPDATE SEPTEMBER 2021: FIGO is delighted to announce that due to the generosity of donations, we are able to cover the registration fees of all trainees speaking at the FIGO 2021 World Congress. Excess funds will be used to cover the registration fees of trainees from low-income and lower-middle-income countries, enabling them to attend the Congress as delegates. We are very grateful for your continued support.

In 2012, the World Association of Trainees in Obstetrics and Gynecology (WATOG) was formed with a mission to assist every OBGYN trainee to achieve the highest level of education. The International Federation of Gynecology and Obstetrics (FIGO) considers trainees to be the future of OBGYN and works closely with WATOG on issues pertaining to the health and rights of women and girls.

WATOG is to be more involved than ever in the FIGO 2021 World Congress, the leading global event in gynaecology and obstetrics. From 21 to 28 October, more than 8,000 delegates will gather virtually to learn, share, build alliances and propose solutions to the challenges facing women and girls health and rights. By attending, trainees will be exposed to the latest research from global leaders, improve their education and widen their perspectives. This will inspire them to continue growing as specialists, advocates and researchers, seeking innovative answers to the issues in women and girls health and rights.

Trainees also have a lot to offer the OBGYN community. WATOG will be hosting 10 scientific sessions and 2 workshops at FIGO 2021, with trainees also invited to speak alongside leading experts in the core scientific sessions. Trainees provide a novel perspective on topics, are eager to participate and prepare their presentations with a lot of enthusiasm. The trainee voice must be heard, and by supporting young OBGYNs with speaking opportunities, you can make a personal contribution to the development of their leadership skills.

In many countries around the world, trainees may work for over 80 hours a week, have relatively low wages and often face difficulty in securing funds to attend events like the FIGO World Congress, which are a critical component to their education.

Your help is needed to cover the registration fees of trainee OBGYNs (100 USD) and provide them with the invaluable opportunity to speak at this leading global event. Trainee registration fees are not intended for profit they cover only the basic technology required to host their sessions and attendance. Trainees from low-income and lower-middle-income countries will be prioritised for funding.

Please donate now to empower young leaders and secure a promising future for the health and rights of women and girls.

About the charity

FIGO’s strength comes from our world-renowned experts, whose knowledge and experience in all aspects of women’s health help shape best practice and innovation. As the Global Voice for Women’s Health, we believe that how a country looks after its women and children demonstrates how that country values its future prosperity. Ultimately, our goal is to improve the health of women and newborns by achieving universal health coverage and wellbeing and access to quality sexual and reproductive health and rights for all women everywhere. With an ambitious work plan, FIGO looks forward to working together with our 132 National Member Societies and partners to achieve our strategic objectives. Our cause could not be more important, nor our commitment more ambitious. FIGO pursues its mission through advocacy, programmatic activities, capacity strengthening of Member Societies, education and training. This mission encompasses the implementation of global projects on specific women's health issues. In addition, our specialist Committees and Working Groups embrace many aspects of obstetrics and gynaecology including oncology, perinatal health, education, safe motherhood, medical terminology, new technology, the pathology of the breast and ethics. We actively collaborate with many other national, regional and global organisations to promote the health and wellbeing of women and to raise the standards of practice in obstetrics and gynaecology.
